SC to get green signal for construction of rapid rail line in Delhi, work to start soon

In 1996, the Supreme Court had denied any construction in the region. But today the court has changed the old order and allowed the construction of a rapid rail transit line.



New Delhi: The Supreme Court has flagged off the construction of rapid rail transit line in the 1-acre area of Delhi’s Millennium Park. The elevated line is to be constructed for Delhi-Panipat and Delhi-Alwar rapid rail. In 1996, the Supreme Court had denied any construction in the region. But today the court has changed the old order and allowed the construction of a rapid rail transit line.

The rapid rail corridor between Delhi and Panipat will keep the distance between the two cities at just 45 minutes. The rapid rail line will be about 111 kilometres long. About 88.7 km is in Haryana. The Delhi-Panipat corridor will have 17 Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) stations including Sarai Kale Khan.



Five stations will also be set up at Panipat. While about 125 acres of depots will be set up in Buffalo village. Under the new plan, the train will run on the bridge along the highway. The rapid rail project between Delhi and Alwar has already started. The first corridor of rapid rail is to be served from Delhi’s Kakhas to SNB in Alwar. The first phase of rapid rail is targeted for completion by 2024.
