School Holidays: Due to severe cold and cold wave in North India, school holidays have been extended in many states. Even after the festivals of Makar Sankranti and Lohri, the Meteorological Department’s cold wave and dense fog alert has decided that schools will remain closed in many districts. So, know till when the schools will remain closed in your area and what are the new timings:
Uttar Pradesh: School holidays extended due to cold and fog
- Prayagraj: Schools were scheduled to reopen on January 15, but due to heavy rush and fog, the holidays were extended till January 17. School timings: 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
Lakhimpur Kheri, Shahjahanpur, Badaun: Schools will remain closed for classes 1-8 in these districts. Schools for classes 9-12 will open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and holidays have been extended till January 17. - Ghaziabad: Schools for classes 1-8 will remain closed till January 18. Staff will have to come, but schools are likely to open for children from January 20.
- Noida: Schools will reopen from January 15. As per the new timings, schools will run from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
- Lucknow: School holidays will remain till January 15, and the timings for classes 1-12 will be from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Delhi: Holidays may increase further due to cold!
Due to cold and cold wave in Delhi, holidays were declared till January 15. Schools are expected to reopen from January 16, but if the cold wave continues, the holidays may be extended further.
Bihar: Holidays extended for classes 1-8 schools
In other districts of Bihar including Patna, schools for classes 1-8 will remain closed till January 15. Schools will reopen from January 16, and the school timings for classes 9-12 will be from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Uttarakhand: Winter holidays in hilly areas
Areas below 5000 feet in Uttarakhand had winter holidays from January 1-13. All schools will reopen from January 15 and the timing will be from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Why were the holidays extended?
Cold wave and fog: The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of cold wave and dense fog for the next few days. Keeping in mind the safety of children, it has been decided to keep schools closed.
Makar Sankranti Bath: Holidays were extended in Prayagraj in view of heavy crowd and traffic conditions due to Makar Sankranti bath.
Tips for parents and children:
- Follow the instructions of the district administration regarding school opening date and time.
- Send children dressed warmly, and attend classes online where possible.
