Secure UPI Transactions: Amidst the ever-increasing challenges of cyber security, it is necessary to be more careful in transactions done through smartphone because your mobile phone becomes a virtual money wallet.
New Delhi. The central government has recently announced incentives on the use of UPI to promote digital transactions. With this, a provision of 1,300 crores has also been made for reimbursement of transactions. If you also use UPI (Unified Payments Interface) for transactions, be careful to avoid fraud.
Amidst the ever-increasing challenges of cyber security, it is necessary to be more careful in transactions done through smartphone, because by doing so your mobile phone becomes a virtual money wallet. It becomes an easy target for financial fraud if one is negligent during the transaction. In such a situation, it becomes necessary to be careful while using the mobile app and follow the security related measures to facilitate financial transactions. If you keep the following six things in mind during UPI transactions, then the chances of fraud are reduced.
Protect UPI Access
Adil Shetty, CEO, BankBazaar.com, says that the UPI address is shared for UPI transactions. This can be your mobile number. It is important to note that no one can access the UPI account through your app. For this, you can set a strong screen lock password and payment PIN. In case of any doubt, change your password and PIN.
Stay away from screen sharing apps
Do not give access to the UPI app to the screen sharing app, as there is a risk of leaking password, PIN, OTP. To avoid this, you can disable open relaxation for the screen sharing app by going to the settings.
Verify Registered Name
Verify the beneficiary before the UPI transaction. By scanning the QR code from the UPI app or entering the number manually, his/her registered name is displayed on the screen. Before the transaction ask the person that the registered name is correct.
Do not send money on mobile number
While sending money, ask for UPI ID or QR code from the receiver, while sending money to the mobile number, there is a possibility of typing the wrong number. To avoid this, one can first send Rs. This also verifies the account.
Keep updating the app
You should regularly update your UPI app for secure transactions. This includes security upgrades that make your app safe to use. Also, avoid compromising on security.
Don’t use too many apps
Adil Shetty says that in case of any problem regarding payment or transaction, raise this issue immediately on the UPI app with the help of the help center. Use multiple apps for UPI secure transactions. One UPI app is sufficient for all digital transactions due to inter-operability. There is no interruption in payment across various platforms, banks or apps.
