Officials, however, said the 3,458 flats in Sector 122 were ready to be delivered but they were still verifying the credentials of applicants

NOIDA : The Noida Authority is yet to allot one-bedroom flats to over 3,500 slum dwellers to free several patches of land of encroachment, seven years after the plan was conceived.

Officials, however, said the 3,458 flats in Sector 122 were ready to be delivered but they were still verifying the credentials of applicants. The Authority had started developing the housing project in 2011 under a rehabilitation scheme that aimed at providing accommodation to slum dwellers encroaching on land in Sectors 4, 8, 9 and 10.

Sources said the allotment would be done block-wise and once the land was vacated, it would be put to various use, such as parks, car parking, roads, etc. “The Noida Authority had received applications from 150 candidates. We verified the credentials and made allotments to 99 of them as of now. We did not find valid documents from some applicants. We are continuing with the verification process to shift the dwellers to the housing society in Sector 122,” said an official.

A survey conducted by the district administration and Authority has found there are 11,565 slum-dwellers in the city. The flats under JJ Dwellers Resettlement Scheme have been priced around Rs 6 lakh. The allottees can make the payment through EMI over a period of 20 years.
