A target has been set to install five lakh smart meters in Gurugram, Faridabad, Panchkula and Karnal by next month. So far about 3.5 lakh smart meters have been installed. At the same time, electricity bills will also be sent to consumers across the state on e-mail and WhatsApp. This will end complaints of non-receipt of bills.
Smart meters will be installed in Gurugram, Faridabad, Panchkula and Karnal in case of old meter failure or new connection.
Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a central government agency in the state, is to install one million smart meters by the end of this year in the first phase, but the project work is going slow. In the report submitted to Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) Chairman RK Pachnanda and member Naresh Sardana, EESL General Manager Rajneesh Rana has also accepted this.

Against the target of installing 45 thousand 500 smart meters in June, only 7137 meters could be installed, while in July, 7531 smart meters were installed against the target of 24 thousand meters. Now the target is to complete this project by December 2023.
At the same time, the electricity corporations have planned to give wings to the scheme that smart meters will be installed in place of new connections given in the four districts or replacement of burnt and damaged meters. Complaints of reading more than smart meters will also end.
Additional Chief Secretary, Electricity Department, PK Das said that by next month the work of installing five lakh smart meters will be completed. Electricity bill will reach the consumers digitally through smart meter, which they can easily pay online or offline. Pre-paid facility will also be available in these meters.
