The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday demanded an apology from the Congress for “helping Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in maligning India’s image” at his United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) speech on Friday.

While addressing the UN general assembly, Imran Khan quoted the Congress to peddle his anti-India rhetoric during his speech, putting the party in a tough spot. Launching an attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Imran Khan said, “The previous Congress home minister gave a statement that in RSS camps, terrorists are being trained.”

Attacking the Congress over Imran Khan’s remarks at the UNGA, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra demanded an apology from former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi, former party president Rahul Gandhi and Sushilkumar Shinde for “helping” Imran Khan in attacking India at the international forum.

Notably, Sushilkumar Shinde had served as the home minister in the Manmohan Singh government.

Sambit Patra said, “I am very much hurt about the speech wherein Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan at UNGA said that it is Congress party’s home minister who has publicly shared about terrorist camps in India and we all know who that Congress home minister was.”

Sambit Patra demanded an apology from senior Congress leader Sushilkumar Shinde for his “false statement against Hindus, against RSS and against the BJP” which, the BJP leader said, the Congress leader had made in 2013 in Jaipur.

The BJP leader continued that big leaders of the UPA were present on the dais when Sushilkumar Shinde was giving his speech.

He said, “So, all of the leaders like Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi who were there and did not object to Sushilkumar Shinde’s statements are responsible for helping PM Imran Khan in his attempt to malign India’s image at the UNGA in New York.”

Targeting NCP chief Sharad Pawar without taking his name, Sambit Patra said that the long form of ED is Enforcement Directorate and not “Event Management Company so someone should not make an event out of ED’s work or any action taken by the agency”.
