New Delhi: Team India is currently on a tour of Australia and two matches of the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy have been played. The Test series is 1-1 and there is a tough competition between the two teams. When these two teams are face to face, the playground becomes a battle ground and it does not remain confined to even the slightest sledding. There have been many occasions in cricket history when the dispute between these two had increased greatly.
1- Anil Kumble was furious
The match between Team India and Australia in 2008 is one of the most disputed matches in cricket history. In this series, these two teams were seen fighting each other many times. This series is known due to its poor umpiring and monkeygate controversy. During this time, Indian captain Anil Kumble was very angry and made it clear that only one team was playing on the field with the spirit of the game.
2- Monkeygate dispute
Team India was on a tour of Australia in 2007-08. The Indian team was 0–1 behind in the series after a 337-run defeat in Melbourne and the second match was being played at the Sydney ground. In that match, Team India was playing on top of the Australian team. Then Harbhajan Singh was batting and Bhajji got into an argument with Andrew Symonds. After this, Captain Ricky Ponting was infuriated and Bhajji was severely accused of racism and not of sledging. He had said that Harbhajan called Symonds a ‘monkey’ on the field.
After the end of the day’s play, the hearing lasted till midnight and three matches were banned after convicting Harbhajan. Australia won the match, but the real controversy started after this.
India’s captain Anil Kumble and the entire team were supporting Harbhajan Singh and he made it clear that he would not play the next match until the charges of racist remarks against Bhajji were withdrawn. After the hearing of the case, all the allegations against Bhajji were called baseless and said that ‘Harbhajan called Symonds not’ monkey ‘but’ your mother’s’. Because of this, this dispute is called the Monkeygate dispute.
3- Gambhir killed Watson in the elbow
In 2008, the Australian team was on a tour of India, during which something happened in the Delhi Test, due to which there was a lot of sourness between the two teams. The Australian team was sledding during the match. Gautam was serious about batting and he could not control his anger and he hit elbow to Shane Watson. Because of this, the umpire banned Gambhir for the next match.

4- Virat showed middle finger
Team India was on a tour of Australia in 2011-12, during which Virat Kohli did something in the second Test of the series, due to which he faced a lot of criticism. In fact, during the match, he showed the middle finger to the audience, due to which Kohli was fined 50 percent of the match fee. After which Virat Kohli tweeted and wrote, ‘I agree that cricketers should not react. But what if the audience makes a vile comment about your mother and sister?
