The Tata Harrier and Tata Safari facelifts have just gone on sale. During the presentation, news broke that the two SUVs have obtained a 5-star safety rating in the Global NCAP (new car assessment programme) crash tests. Both the SUVs have achieved 5 stars in both adult- and child-occupant protection assessments.
Adult Occupant Protection
Frontal Impact (64kmph)
The new Harrier and Safari got 33.05 out of 34 points in adult occupant protection. The SUV duo offered ‘good’ protection to the driver and passenger’s head and neck. Protection to the driver’s and passenger’s chest was rated ‘adequate.’ The driver and passenger’s knees showed ‘good’ protection.
The driver’s lower legs showed ‘adequate’ protection while that of the passenger showed ‘good’ protection. Their footwell area was deemed to be ‘stable’ and so was their bodyshell. The two Tata SUVs were deemed capable of withstanding further loadings.
Side Impact (50kmph)
Under the side impact test, protection to the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis was stated to be ‘good.’
Side Pole Impact (29kmph)
The fitment of the curtain airbags was also said to be as per the necessary protocols. In the side pole impact test, the head and pelvis got ‘good’ protection from the curtain airbags, while ‘marginal’ cover was provided to the chest, and ‘adequate’ protection to the abdomen.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
The ESC on Tata’s facelifted flagship SUVs met the fitment rate requirements, and the performance shown in the test was acceptable according to Global NCAP’s newest requirements.
Child Occupant Protection
Frontal Impact (64kmph)
The two Tata SUVs scored 45 out of 49 points in child occupant protection, with both child seats installed facing rearward. For the 3-year-old, it managed to prevent head exposure during the frontal impact and offered full protection. On the other hand, the child seat for the 1.5-year-old dummy was able to provide full protection to the head too.
Side Impact (50kmph)
Both the child restraint systems (CRS) managed to offer full protection during the side impact test.
2023 Tata Harrier, Safari Safety Kit
With the facelift, the carmaker enhanced the safety net of the two SUVs by offering 6 airbags as standard and improving the overall structural integrity of both. The new Harrier and Safari now also get an additional airbag (offering protection to the driver’s knees) in top-spec variants. Other safety features on offer include electronic stability programme (ESP), ISOFIX child seat mounts, and a 360-degree camera. The two SUVs also come with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
The Tata Harrier facelift is priced from Rs 15.49 lakh while the new Tata Safari facelift costs Rs 16.19 lakh in its most basic form.
