More than 100,000 income-tax returns are being filed on the new income-tax portal every day since July 24, with the number rising to 150,000 on Tuesday and Wednesday, tax department sources said, indicating an improvement in the portal’s operation.
However, tax practitioners and taxpayers ET spoke to said technical issues and slow speed continued to be a problem.

“Prefilling of data in income tax returns is already available and has been updated with the latest data. Additional data on interest, dividends and capital gains will be available to taxpayers shortly,” an official said.
The department is continuously working with Infosys NSE -0.40 %, which has developed and is managing the portal, to resolve the technical difficulties, assisted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and other stakeholders, the official said. Meetings are held regularly and feedbacks are taken from the stakeholders, he added.
Other income tax return forms, Vivaad se Vishwas scheme forms and forms for filing appeals will be made available shortly. The functionality for rectification will also be made available soon, the official said.
