1.55 lakh freshers are likely to be recruited in the IT/Tech sector in the financial year 2023-24, which is much less than the last financial year. In the last financial year, this sector had recruited 2.3 lakh freshers. Tech staffing firm TeamLease Digital has presented these results. According to the current employment situation, approximately 15 lakh engineering graduates are looking for jobs in the IT/Tech sector. In such a situation, the number of recruitment of freshers is very less. According to a survey by TeamLease Digital, only 45% of candidates are able to meet the expectations of the required skills. This also reveals the huge gap between demand and supply of skills.
Many big IT companies have currently stopped the recruitment of freshers, due to which the demand in alternative sectors has increased. There is a big change in the hiring environment and entry-level hiring is happening in non-tech sectors like BFSI, Communication, Media & Technology, Retail & Consumer Business, Life Sciences & Healthcare, Engineering Research & Development and Energy & Resources. Opportunities are increasing.
To meet the needs of the market, better skills and training have to be provided as soon as possible, hence leaders from different industries are emphasizing on combining soft and hard skills, which include communication, teamwork, emotional intelligence, problem handling etc. Along with soft skills, it also includes hard skills like technical expertise, cloud computing and data analytics.
Freshers can improve their employability capabilities by improving industry-based skills, especially focusing on gaining proficiency in using digital tools and technology. TeamLease Digital has said that institutions need to include industry based training programs in their syllabus on priority basis. The objective of such programs is to equip freshers with modern technical skills, so that their chances of getting employment can increase.
