Explain that according to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, Fastag was made necessary for all types of registration of new four wheelers from 1 December 2017 and the vehicle manufacturer or their dealer Are supplying fastag. It was also required that the certificate of fitness would be renewed only after the fastag for transport vehicles. Apart from this, it is also necessary for National Permit Vehicles to stick to Fastag from October 1, 2019.

It has also been made necessary through the change in Form 51 that it is necessary to have a valid fastag while taking a new third party insurance. This will include the details of Fastag ID. This will come into force with effect from April 1, 2021. This notification will be a major step towards ensuring 100% payment of duty on toll plazas only through electronic means.
