Alliance Air is set to start flights by the end of this month, which will be the airport’s first scheduled operation.
Amravati airport has received the airport licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Alliance Air will operate flights to Mumbai from the facility by the end of this month. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said this on Thursday, PTI reported. The Amravati airport, located in Belora, was initially developed by the Public Works Department in 1992 but remained non-operational for public use.
Airport renovated
According to the report, the state-run Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) renovated the airport with extended runways and other upgrades to meet licensing requirements. The initiative was part of the Maharashtra government’s broader effort to expand its aviation infrastructure, which includes airports in Chandrapur, Dhule, Shirdi and Navi Mumbai.

Flights on Amravati-Mumbai-Amravati route this month
In a post on X, Fadnavis said the granting of airport licence is a milestone that clears the way for commercial flights from Amravati, boosting regional connectivity and economic prospects. He said Alliance Air is set to start flights on the Amravati-Mumbai-Amravati route by the end of this month, which will be the airport’s first scheduled operation. MADC Managing Director Swati Pandey symbolically handed over the DGCA certification to the chief minister during the day.
323 routes currently operational under UDAN scheme
The government had informed a few days ago that out of the 619 routes operational under the regional air connectivity scheme ‘UDAN’, 323 routes are currently operational. The UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) scheme, launched in 2016, aims to connect various cities as well as make air travel affordable. The government aims to make India a global aviation hub by 2030. There is a special emphasis on civil aviation in the Union Budget 2025-26.
