Bank Holiday 2025: According to the RBI holiday calendar, banks will be closed on May 1 in Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram.

Actually, according to the list of holidays of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will be closed in many parts of the country on May 1 due to Maharashtra Day and Labor Day.

According to the RBI holiday calendar, banks will be closed on May 1 in Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram. That is, if you live in these cities and have some important work related to the bank, then it is wise to get it done on time.

Why is Maharashtra Day celebrated?

May 1 is celebrated as Maharashtra Day. Actually, on May 1, 1960, the Bombay state was reorganized and Maharashtra and Gujarat came into existence as two separate states. After the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement, the state of Maharashtra was created for Marathi-speaking people.

Apart from this, Labor Day is also celebrated on May 1. This day is celebrated to honor the contribution of the hard workers and labor movement around the world. Workers carried out many movements for their rights, fair wages and safe workplaces. Labor Day is celebrated in their honor.

Banks will remain closed for 8 days in May

According to RBI, bank holidays in India fall into two major categories. First – Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and second – Holidays due to closing of bank accounts. There will be a total of 8 bank holidays in the month of May. Apart from national and regional holidays, this includes Sundays and holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month.
