Using *99# USSD code, you can make UPI payments without internet. To make UPI payment through *99#, it is necessary to link your phone number with the bank account and register on the BHIM App from the same number.
New Delhi. In today’s digital age, our life depends heavily on the Internet. This is especially true when it comes to fund transfers and other online payment methods like Unified Payment Interface/UPI. Imagine what happens if you are sending money to someone and suddenly the internet connection goes out. Well there is a solution for this too, so there is no need to panic. Actually, you can make UPI payment from your phone even without internet. In the absence of internet, *99# facility of National Payments Corporation of India i.e. NPCI will be of great use.
*99# is NPCI’s USSD based mobile banking service, which was launched in November 2012. Initially this service was available only for BSNL and MTNL users. It is important to note that to make UPI payment through *99#, your phone number must be linked with the bank account. Apart from this, one-time registration is also necessary on the BHIM App from the same phone number.
How to send money using *99#
Step 1- First of all open the dial pad of the phone and after typing *99#, tap the call button. This will take you to a new menu with 7 options. The menu will list options like Send Money, Receive Money, Check Balance, My Profile, Pending Requests, Transactions and UPI PIN.
Step 2- If you want to send money only, then select Send Money option by pressing number 1 on dial pad. After this, you will be able to send money using phone number, UPI ID or account number and IFSC code.
Step 3- Next, enter the amount and enter your 4 or 6 digit UPI PIN to complete the transaction. Then all you have to do is tap ‘send’.
What is UPI
Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a real time payment system, which can transfer money to bank account instantly through mobile app. Through UPI, you can link one bank account with multiple UPI apps. At the same time, multiple bank accounts can be operated through one UPI app.
