To prevent Indian students from going abroad, seats will be increased in the top institutes of the country including IIT, NIT, IISc, new courses and degree programs will start in the country

The government’s objective of increasing the seat is to prevent promising students from going abroad.

From the new academic session this year, the seats of top institutes including IIT, NIT, IISc will be increased. The Modi government will increase these seats by 50 per cent by 2024 as part of its election manifesto. Not only this, for the purpose of providing quality education and employment on the lines of foreign countries, new courses will also be added on the basis of market demand.

The purpose is to stop promising students from going abroad

In a meeting chaired by Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on higher education last week, the seat increase and the number of Institute of Eminence (IOE) were discussed. The government’s objective of increasing the seat is to prevent promising students from going abroad.

The same facilities will be introduced in Indian educational institutions for subjects and degree programs that Indian students enroll in to study foreign universities. For this, seats will also increase with the introduction of such courses, degree programs in the best institutions of the country including IIT, NIT.

Degree programs that provide market demand and employment will start

In this order, there will be increase in market demand in the graduation program and maximum number of seats in the degree program giving employment, so that students can stay in India to pursue higher quality education. According to the data, in 2019, about 7 lakh 50 thousand Indian students took admission in foreign universities for higher education.

IOE status to 30 institutions in the country

The Institute of Eminence will now be 50 instead of 30. Initially they numbered 20, out of which 10 were government and 10 private institutions. However, their number was increased to 30 in 2018. Under this, 20 institutions have got IOE status from UGC so far.
