Toll Tax: You must have heard many times that your vehicle is parked in the parking lot but still money was deducted from FASTag. This was often happening with many people, but now the government has started taking strict action on this. The National Highway Authority (NHAI) has imposed a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh on toll operators in more than 250 cases of wrong toll deduction. After this step, there has been a 70% reduction in such cases.
FASTag is used at toll plazas with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, due to which toll tax is deducted without stopping. But sometimes money is deducted due to wrong number entry or system error. After the complaint is lodged, the matter is investigated and if wrong deduction is found, the money is refunded.
FASTag has been made mandatory by NHAI for all vehicles. Its purpose is to reduce congestion at toll plazas, save fuel and promote digital transactions. Payment with FASTag is automatic and it can be recharged through a mobile app.
Fine of Rs 1 lakh for every wrong deduction
According to the report, NHAI’s toll management body IHMCL now imposes a fine of Rs 1 lakh in such cases. According to a TOI report, this hefty penalty has led to a 70% reduction in such incidents. Currently, IHMCL receives about 50 such complaints every month, while there are 30 crore FASTag transactions at national highway toll plazas.
