CHENNAI: Boredom, communication gap and dry spells are the top three reasons why married men and women cheat, says a survey done by Gleeden, an extramarital dating app.
The survey was conducted among 10,000 users of the app in Tier -1 cities like Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Pune. The participants were aged between 35 and 45 years.
Gleeden country manager Sybil Shiddell says, “Infidelity is considered as a taboo worldwide but there are many aspects to it. Cheating or the will to cheat is not the only reason why people get involved in extramarital affairs. Other factors like negligence, domestic violence, loneliness and others are a few of the many reasons that contribute to it.”
The top 10 reasons are: boredom, communication gap, dry spell, high-end expectations (not getting attention, time, love, care, and intimacy from their partner can make the marriage’s tone fall), past relationships (as people may judge their current relationship and partner with their previous one), newbie trends (such as the hook-up culture), polygamy (when couples accept that a person can fall in love with two or three), domestic violence, tendency to go with the flow (for instance, a cozy environment with drinks can make some people more likely to have an affair) and sexaholism (sexaholics find it difficult to stay faithful to their partner).
