What will be the registration renewal charge?
As per the notification, at present, owners of commercial vehicles will have to pay almost eight times more fee than earlier for renewal of fitness certificate for a bus or truck that is more than 15 years old. The registration renewal charge for a 15-year old car will be Rs 5,000 as against the current Rs 600, while the registration renewal charge for older bikes will be Rs 1,000 as against the current Rs 300. Similarly, the fitness renewal certificate for a bus or truck above 15 years will cost Rs 12,500 over the existing fee of Rs 1,500, while in case of medium goods or passenger motor vehicle it will cost Rs 10,000. Renewal of registration of imported bikes and cars will cost Rs 10,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively.
According to the notification, these rules may be called the Central Motor Vehicles (23rd Amendment) Rules, 2021, and will come into force from April 1, 2022. 50 for each day of delay in notification which will be levied on expiry of fitness certificate.
