New traffic rule: The central government had issued a deadline of 31 December 2022 for making changes in vehicles. Now vehicle owners who have not made this change can be fined up to ₹ 10,000.

new Delhi. The Government of India has made High-Security Registration Plates and colour-coded stickers compulsory for all vehicles. The new rule has come into effect from January 1. If you do not have an HSRP number plate on your vehicle, get it installed immediately. If a vehicle is not found with this number plate during checking, then a fine ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 can be imposed on it.

The central government had issued a deadline of 31 December 2022 for the installation of high security number plates. After which all the vehicles registered before April 1, 2019 have to have high security registration plate and color coded sticker. According to the rule, action will be taken against the vehicles on which this number plate will not be received from January 1.

What is HSRP?
High-security number plates are number plates made of aluminum and are fixed to the vehicle by means of at least two non-reusable snap-on locks. The advantage of this is that they can neither be easily removed from the vehicle nor can another number plate be installed once removed. The plate has a hot-stamped chromium-based 20 mm X 20 mm hologram of the Ashoka Chakra in blue on the upper left corner.

The secret number is written on the plate
The 10 digit Permanent Identification Number (PIN) is laser engraved on the lower left corner of this plate. The HSRP also has a hot-stamped film on the numerals and letters, with ‘INDIA’ inscribed at a 45-degree angle. The HSPR plate is electronically linked to the vehicle where it is fitted.

What is the cost of HSRP number plate?
The cost of an HSRP plate starts from around Rs 400 for two-wheelers and goes up to Rs 1,100 for four-wheelers depending on the category. The owner will have to pay Rs 100 to get a colour-coded sticker (to identify petrol diesel or CNG powered engine).
