Traffic Rule: It is necessary for the car drivers to have the car’s registration certificate, driving license, insurance and another document. If they do not have these documents, a heavy fine can be imposed. Actually, the car drivers should also have Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. These days, there is a lot of checking going on for this. In case of not having a PUC certificate, people are being fined up to Rs 10,000. However, the amount of the fine is being decided by the police. The cost of making a PUC certificate is just Rs 100.

This is how you can get a PUC certificate

With the help of a PUC certificate, it is known how much pollution your vehicle is causing. It is very important to have this certificate in Delhi-NCR, because in order to control pollution, the traffic police keeps a strict vigil on vehicles that cause pollution. A PUC certificate is issued only when the vehicle is found to be within the prescribed limit during checking at a PUC centre. If your vehicle causes pollution, you are asked to get it repaired or tuned. The Transport Department has released a list of pollution checking centres at several petrol pumps and workshops in Delhi.

Law regarding PUC certificate

After a certain time it becomes mandatory to have the PUC certificate of the car. If you don’t have a PUC certificate, or it has expired, then a challan is issued under section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. This can result in a fine of Rs 10,000 or a jail term of 6 months, or both. Not only this, the transport department can also suspend the vehicle owner’s licence for 3 months in the absence of a PUC certificate. If the vehicle is causing a lot of pollution even after having a PUC certificate, then a new PUC certificate will have to be obtained within 7 days.
