The government itself told the truth
Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had made a tweet four years ago in 2019, appealing to ignore the rumours. It was told in this tweet that there is no provision of penalty for driving wearing half shirt, lungi or slippers in the Motor Vehicle Act. However, by changing the rules from 2021, driving wearing thongs, sandals or flip-flops has been banned. This is because due to loose thongs, they can slip from the feet while driving and an accident can happen. There is a provision of a fine of Rs 1,000 for driving a vehicle wearing slippers.

Forcibly removing the key is a crime
You must have seen many times that the traffic police forcefully take out the key from the vehicle of the rule breakers or let the air out of the tyre. Doing so is also a legal offense. According to the Motor Vehicles Act, the traffic police does not have the right to seize your vehicle.
