India exports 6 billion dollar medicines to America. Representatives of the Indian pharma industry say that at present, this order of Trump will not have much effect.
The concern of Indian pharma companies has increased after President Donald Trump’s order to increase production of essential medicines in America. However, they will not be affected immediately. But later on they may face problems. The largest supplier companies of US drug market are Indians. Indian pharmaceutical companies have a large participation in the US pharmaceutical market, so domestic pharma companies are worried.
Indian companies are currently unaffected
Representatives of domestic pharmaceutical companies say that currently there will not be a big impact, but if the purchase of local medicines is made mandatory in the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, then Indian pharma companies may be affected. In its order dated August 6, Trump had asked the agencies involved in drug procurement to find out the weaknesses in the supply chain of essential medicines. US Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Han has been asked to prepare a draft in three so that the necessary medicines are available in sufficient quantities.
More impact on China than India
This trump order may affect China more than India, from where bulk drugs are exported worldwide. India too had to face the problems of the supply chain of bulk drugs recently. Production was halted in China’s Huawei province due to the lockdown. Due to this, the supply of bulk drugs in India was affected and the shortage of medicines started.
