According to the Motor Vehicles Act 129, all car drivers or two-wheelers are required to wear belts or helmets. Failure to follow these rules leads to a fine of Rs 1000 and a cancellation of a driving license for 3 months. The Karnataka government has reduced the amount of the fine to Rs 500. Also, the rule for suspension of driving license for 3 months has been imposed for not wearing helmet. It is being told that the state government has taken this decision in view of the increasing incidence of road accidents.

This new order of the state government has come after a directive from the Supreme Court which said that strict rules should be followed for wearing helmets on two-wheelers. Explain that 1.65 crore two-wheelers are registered in Karnataka. Out of which 59.9 lakh are registered in Bengaluru.
