The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has urged citizens to review their Aadhaar card information, especially those who received their Aadhaar card more than 10 years ago and have not made any updates yet. However, these updates are not mandatory.
Aadhaar is a unique number and no resident can have more than one Aadhaar number as it is linked to their individual biometrics. This helps to identify fake and duplicate identities which are the major leakage problems nowadays. The savings that are made by eliminating fake and duplicates through Aadhaar based identification will enable governments to extend benefits to other eligible residents.
According to the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations, 2016, “An Aadhaar number holder has the right to update his/her documents or information at least once at the end of every 10 years from the date of generation of Aadhaar number received by him/her, by submitting an application for updating the proof of identity and address.”
