Upcoming Expressways: The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway​ is currently under construction. However, some parts of it have been opened. The expressway from Delhi to Dehradun via Saharanpur will be an access controlled corridor. The Varanasi to Kolkata Expressway via Ranchi will be an access controlled corridor covering a distance of 612 km. The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway will cover a total distance of 262 km. Upcoming Expressways: In the coming years, 25 greenfield high-speed national highway corridors will be built under the Bharatmala project. In this article, we are taking a look at 10 such expressways that are going to change the face of road travel in India.

  1. Delhi-Mumbai Expressway​
    The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is still under construction. However, some parts of it have been opened. This 1350 km long expressway is divided into 4 sections, which will reduce the travel time between the two cities to just 12 hours. It will cover Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra along with Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Union Territories.
  2. Delhi-Dehradun Expressway​​​​​​
    The expressway from Delhi to Dehradun via Saharanpur will be an access controlled corridor. It will cover Delhi, UP and Uttarakhand. This 239 km long expressway will reduce the travel time by 2.5 hours.
  3. Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway
    The government claims that the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra railway line covering a distance of 669 km will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Katra to just 6 hours. This expressway will pass through Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir.
  4. Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway
    The Kanpur to Lucknow Expressway will cover a distance of 63 km in Uttar Pradesh. This will reduce the travel time between the two cities by 30 minutes.
  5. Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Expressway
    The Varanasi to Kolkata Expressway via Ranchi will be an access controlled corridor covering a distance of 612 km. It will cover Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. This will reduce the travel time from 15 hours to just 9 hours.
  6. Amritsar–Bhatinda–Jamnagar Expressway
    The Amritsar to Jamnagar Expressway will cover a distance of 917 km via Bhatinda. This access controlled expressway will pass through Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
  7. Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway
    The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway will cover a total distance of 262 km and the government claims that it will reduce the travel time between the two cities to just 2 hours. It will cover the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
  8. Hyderabad–Vishakhapatnam Expressway
    The Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam Expressway, passing through Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, will cover a distance of 222 km.
  9. Surat-Nashik-Solapur Expressway
    The Surat-Nashik-Ahmednagar-Solapur Expressway will be entry controlled and will cover a distance of 730 km through Gujarat and Maharashtra.
  10. Indore-Hyderabad Expressway
    The Indore to Hyderabad Expressway will cover a distance of 525 km. It will pass through Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana.
