About three crore electricity consumers of UP will get interest at the rate of 4.5 percent on their deposit security in any one month of April, May or June. The power companies will pay this amount of interest by reducing the bills of the consumers. The total deposit security of consumers with the power companies is Rs 3665 crore. A total of Rs 156 crore will go to the consumers of the state as interest.
This amount of interest is for the year 2021-22, which is to be given to the consumers at the bank rate of April 1, 2021. The security rate for all types of connections varies from state to state, whether domestic, industrial, commercial, agricultural. The amount deposited as security on the connection of the consumer, he will get this benefit of interest on the same amount.
Under the provisions of the Electricity Act-2003 and the Electricity Distribution Code, the interest is paid to the consumers on their deposit security at the rate of interest on the bank rate applicable on April 1 of every year. For the first time, order to pay interest was made on time
Awadhesh Kumar Verma, President, Electricity Consumer Council has told that for the first time in 15 years, the order for payment of interest on the security amount of the consumers has been made on time. For this, he has thanked the Chairman of Power Corporation on behalf of the consumers. Awadhesh has told that the feeding of 60 lakh consumers whose security amount was not fed into the system has also been started by Power Corporation. Out of these, the details of about 25 percent of the consumers have been fed on the system.

Security deposit of Rs 600 is applicable for 2 kW connection.
