Its objective is to provide assured pension, family pension and assured minimum pension to the central employees. Dr. Somnath Committee was formed to improve the new pension scheme. In fact, while giving information about the Union Cabinet briefing today on Saturday (24 August), Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that many important decisions were taken in the cabinet meeting. Which also includes the announcement of the Unified Pension Scheme. This scheme is being brought keeping in mind the pension received after the job.

The government has found a solution to the old pension scheme

The Union Minister said, “The opposition has been doing politics only about the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). After looking at the schemes in countries around the world and discussing with many people, this committee suggested the Unified Pension Scheme. The Cabinet has approved the Unified Pension Scheme. The employees were demanding an assured amount.”

Giving information, he said, “Pensioners will be given 50 percent assured pension. The average basic pay of the 12 months before retirement will be 50 percent. This pension will be available only after 25 years of service. Now the government is bringing Unified Pension Scheme i.e. UPS in place of NPS. The government has found a solution to OPS.”

What is UPS, understand

Actually, the pension scheme announced by the government will be implemented from April 1, 2025. Under this, a person working in a government job for 10 years will get a pension of Rs 10,000. Those who work for 25 years will be given full pension.

At the same time, if an employee dies while on the job, then his wife will be given 60 percent pension. If an employee has worked for 25 years, then at least 50 percent of the average salary of the last 12 months before retirement will be given as pension.

All NPS holders will get the option to go to UPS. The government will pay the arrears for this. Employees who have retired since 2004 will also get the benefit. The central government also said that if the state government wants to implement UPS, then they can also implement it.
