Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: The first Vande Bharat sleeper train is likely to start by the end of the year. This train is being built on the lines of Europe’s Nightjet sleeper trains.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train:  People who have been waiting for the ‘Vande Bharat Sleeper’ train for a long time are going to get its gift soon. The country’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train is expected to start by the end of the year. ‘Vande Bharat Sleeper’ is the third version of the Vande Bharat series. The first Vande Bharat sleeper is expected to run in Gujarat.

Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai General Manager U Subba Rao has told during an interview that the first Vande Bharat sleeper train is expected to depart from Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) plant by September 20. He has said that we hope that the coaches will reach ICF Chennai by September 20. After this we will do rake manufacturing, final testing and commissioning, which will take about 15-20 days.

After this, this train will be passed through the mainline which will run for a month or two under the supervision of Lucknow-based Railway Design and Standards Organization (RDSO). Trial runs are likely to be conducted on the North Western Railway zone for high-speed testing.

A glimpse of Europe’s Nightjet sleeper train will be seen

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is being built on the lines of Europe’s Nightjet sleeper trains. In this train, LED strips will light up on the floor under the stairs for passengers going to the toilet when the lights are off at night. Apart from this, there will also be a separate berth for the train attendant.

Rao says that in May 2023, Integral Coach Factory Chennai placed an order to BEML Limited for the design and manufacture of 10 rakes of 16-car Vande Bharat sleeper train set. The maximum speed of this train will be 160 kmph.

He further said that this is the first Vande Bharat sleeper train. It is taking a little more time to complete. It will meet European standards and will be operational by December 2024 after all tests and trial runs.
