Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: Indian Railways has placed a large order of propulsion electrics for 50 rakes of 24-coach Vande Bharat sleeper train sets. These trains are likely to be ready in a time frame of 2 years.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: To make long distance train journey comfortable, Indian Railways is going to launch Vande Bharat Sleeper Train soon. The semi high-speed train Vande Bharat Express is one of the most luxurious trains in India. This will be the first train of this series in which passengers will be able to travel at night by sleeping. Recently, a successful trial of 540 km of this train has been done on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.
According to the information uploaded on PIB by the government, the first 16-coach Vande Bharat sleeper train has successfully completed the rigorous testing of Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) for a distance of five hundred and forty kilometers in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad section on January 15, 2025.
Speed of 180 kmph
Integral Coach Factory, Chennai completed the manufacture of India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train set on 17 December last year. Within a fortnight, the train was brought to Kota Division and short trial runs of 30-40 km were successfully completed. During this, the train also performed well at a speed of 180 kmph.
After successful testing of the prototype, nine more Vande Bharat sleeper train sets are scheduled to be produced between April and December 2025. These trains will set new standards in terms of efficiency and convenience for long distance passengers.
Indian Railways placed a big order
To make this sleeper train available for the first time, Indian Railways has placed a big order of propulsion electrics for 50 rakes of 24-coach Vande Bharat sleeper train sets on 17 December 2024. The order has been placed with two major Indian manufacturers, which are likely to be ready in a time frame of 2 years.
Like other mail or express trains of the country, Vande Bharat Sleeper train is also divided into three categories – AC First Class, AC Second Tier and AC Third Tier. 1,128 passengers can travel in this train at a time. Apart from this, keeping safety in mind, modern technology like crash buffer, deformation tube and fire barrier wall has been used in it.
Vande Bharat train with 24 coaches soon
The Railway Ministry has further said that looking towards the future, full-scale production of the 24-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper train will start in 2026-27, which will further strengthen India’s self-reliance in railway technology.
Many high-tech features have been added to this train for the convenience of passengers. From automatic gates to comfortable cushioned berths, this train will set a new benchmark for comfortable travel. Apart from this, every passenger will get the facility of free WiFi onboard, so that they can enjoy the internet during the journey.
