Vande Bharat Train Fare Reduce: Congress member Rakibul Hussain from Dhubri, Assam, through his question wanted to know whether the government has considered reducing the fare of Vande Bharat Express?

Indian Railways: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Wednesday that the fare of different classes in different trains is based on the facilities provided in them and different train services are provided for different types of passenger classes. The minister gave this information in a written reply to questions asked in the Lok Sabha regarding the high fares of Vande Bharat trains.

Congress member Rakibul Hussain from Dhubri, Assam, through his question wanted to know whether the government has considered reducing the fare of Vande Bharat Express to make this premium train service more affordable for a large section of the population, especially the low income group.

Responding to a question, Vaishnaw said that Indian Railways fixes fares keeping in view the cost of travel, expenses, affordability of passengers, competition from other competing modes of transport, socio-economic aspects, etc.

Vaishnaw said, “Fares of different trains/classes are based on the amenities offered in these trains. Indian Railways operates different types of trains for different types of passenger segments. Evaluation and rationalisation of passenger fares, including Vande Bharat trains, is a continuous and ongoing process.”

He said, “Recently, Indian Railways has introduced AMRUT Bharat services, which are fully non-AC trains, currently having 12 coaches of sleeper class and 8 coaches of general class, providing high quality services to a large section of the population, especially the low income group.”

According to the Railway Minister, AMRUT Bharat trains have modern technology, equipped with advanced facilities like semi-permanent couplers, horizontal sliding windows, foldable tables and bottle and mobile holders for comfortable travel.

Increasing general, sleeper coaches: Vaishnav

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that the government is making rail travel easier for the common people and for this his ministry is focusing on installing more general coaches and sleeper coaches so that the common citizens of the country can get the full benefit of the railway service.
