Vehicle Registration Cancelled: In the year 2018, the High Court had banned 10 years and 15 years old diesel and petrol vehicles respectively in this state. The court had also asked to seize the vehicles violating the order.
Vehicles Registration: The Transport Department of Delhi has canceled the registration of more than 54 lakh vehicles that have crossed the period of operation till 27 March. These include autorickshaws, cabs and two-wheelers. According to the department, among the vehicles whose registration has been cancelled, there are some vehicles which were registered in the years 1900 and 1901.
The Supreme Court had imposed a ban on 10-15 year old vehicles
In the year 2018, the Supreme Court had banned 10 year old and 15 year old diesel and petrol vehicles respectively in Delhi. The court had said that the vehicles violating the order should be confiscated. In the 2014 order of the National Green Tribunal, vehicles older than 15 years have been prohibited from being parked in public places.
According to the Transport Department, the registration of most vehicles has been canceled in South Delhi Part One . There, till March 27, the registration of 9,285 three-wheelers and 25,167 cabs was cancelled. 2,90,127 vehicles in Mall Road Zone, 3,27,034 vehicles in IP Depot, 9,99,999 vehicles in South Delhi Part One, 1,1,69,784 vehicles in South Delhi Part II, 2, 7,06,921 vehicles in Loni, Janakpuri 4,35,408 vehicles, 4,96,086 vehicles in Sarai Kale Khan, 2,99,788 vehicles in Mayur Vihar, 1,65,048 vehicles in Wazirpur, 3,04,677 in Dwarka, 25,167 in Burari, 1,95,626 vehicles in Rajagarden and 6 in Rohini zone. Registration of 56,201 vehicles was cancelled.
The Transport Department had started a campaign on March 29 to send the vehicles that have completed their operational period to the scrap. Transport Commissioner Ashish Kundra said, “There is a request to obtain NOC (No Objection Certificate) for out of date vehicles and sell them in the state where they are fit to run (operate). If these vehicles are found standing on the roads here, then they are in danger of being given in junk. 79.18 lakh vehicles were registered on the roads of Delhi in 2021-22.
