This decision may affect more than 20 million (2 crore) vehicles in the state. The state transport department said that vehicle owners will have to bear the cost of replacing their old number plate with a new tamper-resistant HSRP unit.
The state transport department said that vehicle owners who fail to install high-security number plates in their vehicles within the time limit will face penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act. The Motor Vehicles Department will not provide services like vehicle registration and address change if the HSRP plate is not available. Please note that a challan of up to Rs 10,000 can be issued for not having HSRP.
HSRP Prices
To get their plates replaced, vehicle owners must book their installation appointments online through portals managed by government-appointed agencies. Walk-ins are not allowed. Installation appointments can be rescheduled within 90 days after the first appointment date. According to the government, the use of HSRP will help improve vehicle security, especially when it comes to tracking stolen vehicles.
Vehicle owners can get the new HSRP from their respective RTO offices at the official rates, which have been fixed at Rs 745 for passenger vehicles, Rs 500 for three-wheelers, Rs 450 for two-wheelers and tractors. The state department has appointed three agencies to provide HSRP based on the RTO location. The agency will verify the vehicle details on the official VAHAN portal before installing these plates.
What is HSRP, why is it necessary?

According to the rules, the thickness of the registration plate should be 1mm. Its size should be 280×45, 200×100, 340×200 and 500×120 depending on the vehicle. HSR plates of these sizes are used on two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers. The size of the front and rear plate of the vehicle can be different. The color of the plate also changes according to personal and commercial vehicles.
The colours and fonts used on the High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) are reflective colours. These colours are applied on a special type of aluminium plate. The special thing about these colours is that they shine when light falls on them. Also, they are easily captured in CCTV cameras. These colours are white, yellow and green. The numbers on these plates are pressed, which remain visible forever.
A special layer is applied on these numbers. On which INDIA is written. If a registration plate also has a unit laser number written on it, then it is universal. That is, this number is used only once on a plate. It can be understood in this way that the unit laser number is different on the front and rear registration plate of the same vehicle . These plates also have a hot-stamped chromium-based 20mm X 20mm hologram of Ashok Chakra in blue colour.
