Officials say that this step has been taken by the Saudi Arabian government to prevent individuals from trying to perform Hajj without proper registration. The main objective of this decision is to prevent a repeat of last year’s Hajj tragedy. Why was the decision taken to ban
According to various media reports, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had instructed the authorities to tighten visa rules this year, after which this ban has been imposed. However, people holding Umrah visas can still enter Saudi Arabia till April 13. The report said that the ban was needed because many foreign nationals come to Saudi Arabia on Umrah or travel visas and stay in the country for a long time. Then these people illegally join the Hajj in Mecca, where the crowd increases and chaos arises.
According to the latest rules, applications for Umrah visas can be made till April 13 this year. After this, no visa will be issued till the end of the Haj pilgrimage i.e. till mid-June. The Umrah Ministry of Saudi Arabia has said that this step has been taken purely as a logical step for the purpose of smooth and safe pilgrimage and it has no diplomatic connection in any way.
