As an identity card for casting vote on the day of polling, the Election Commission issues Voter ID Card to all the voters i.e. Voter ID. Name must be in voter list
For this your name must be in the voter list. If your name is in the voter list and you do not have a voter ID card, then the Election Commission has recognized 11 types of other documents as identity cards, showing which you can cast your vote. If someone’s name is not in the voter list and he shows his Aadhar card or voter card or any other ID at the polling station to cast his vote, then he will not be allowed to vote. The right to vote will be done only after the name is registered in the voter list.

Votes can be cast on the basis of these documents
If you do not have Voter ID, then voting can be done on the basis of other documents also. Apart from Voter ID, the Election Commission has also recognized these 11 other types of documents.

1. Passport.
2. Driving License.
3. If you are an employee of Central and State Government or working in PSUs and Public Limited Company, then voting can also be done on the basis of photo ID of the company.
4. PAN Card.
5. Aadhar Card.
6. Passbook issued by Post Office and Bank.
7. MGNREGA JOB CARD.
8. Health Insurance Card issued by the Ministry of Labor.
9. Pension card on which your photo is affixed and attested.
10. Smart card issued by National Population Register (NPR).
11. Official Identity Card issued by MPs/MLAs/MLCs.

How to check your name in voter list
Before every election, the Election Commission updates the voter list. During this, new voters are added and sometimes a voter’s name is deducted from the voter list. In such a situation, before the election, make sure to check your name in the voter list. If your name is not there in the voter list, then by filing a complaint with the Election Commission, you can get your name included in the voter list again. To check the name in the voter list, you have to follow these steps.

  • Login to the Election Commission website, electoralsearch.in. Here voters can search in two ways.
  • You can check your name by entering name, date of birth and some other information in the first option.
  • In the second option, voters can get information through the EPIC number given on the card.
  • EPIC number is called voter ID card number. Through this number, you can check your name in the voter list.
  • After giving the information, the voter list will open in front of you and your details will be present there.
  • Despite giving all the information, if the information is not revealed, then you can call the toll free number 1800111950 of the Election Commission.
