Instances of commuters opting for shared cabs and auto rickshaws in Gurugram, Haryana, being targeted by robbers are on the rise. Several such incidents have come to light just this year.
Gurugram: Instances of commuters using public modes of transport in Gurugram being targeted by robbers have risen in the past few months. Gurugram police on Tuesday said that a 20-year-old private company employee was robbed of Rs 2,000 by four people who offered him a shared ride in an autorickshaw.
In his complaint to the police, the victim claimed that he was offered a ride from Rajiv Chowk in Gurugram to his residence in Delhi’s Patel Nagar. However, the robbers took him to a lane behind the Civil Hospital where they allegedly robbed him.

Lines police station, Chander Prakash told media outlets that a case has been registered in this regard under section 379A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which corresponds to charges of snatching. He also said that an investigation into the matter is underway but no arrests have been made as of yet.
Since January this year, nine such incidents have come to light from Gurugram where commuters were robbed after being offered a lift in a shared cab or auto rickshaw. As many as 15 such cases had been reported in the last two months of 2018.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP, Crime), Narendra Bijarnia told Hindustan Times that three units of crime investigation agency (CIA) have been formed to nab the gangs with this modus operandi. He reiterated that no accused have been identified in this regard and no arrests have been made in connection with this recent case as of yet.
