Weather Today: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday that cyclone ‘Biporjoy’ is going to intensify in the next 36 hours and will move north-northwest in the next three days. On the other hand, Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into remaining parts of Kerala and additional areas of Southern Peninsula within the next two days.

New Delhi: Weather Today: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday that cyclone ‘Biporjoy’ is going to intensify in the next 36 hours and will move north-northwestwards in the next three days. On the other hand, Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into remaining parts of Kerala and additional areas of Southern Peninsula within the next two days.

Biporjoy is a severe cyclonic storm

“The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘BIPORJOY’ over east-central Arabian Sea moved nearly north-northeastwards with a speed of 13 kmph during last six hours and is expected to leave Goa at 2.30 p.m. on June 9,” the IMD said in a statement. It was located approximately 740 km west, 750 km west-southwest of Mumbai, 760 km south-southwest of Porbandar and 1,070 km south of Karachi.

It will gradually intensify further during next 36 hours and move nearly north-northeastwards during next 48 hours and north-northwestwards during subsequent three days.

IMD has predicted this

The IMD further predicted that the wind speed would be 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph over Saurashtra and Kutch coasts on June 10. The next day on June 11, it is likely to intensify further to 40-50 kmph and increase up to 60 kmph. The wind speed will be 45-55 kmph on June 12, which can increase up to 65 kmph. For the next two days on June 13 and 14, wind will blow at a speed of 50-60 kmph, which can reach up to 70 kmph.

It said, the sea condition is very likely to be rough on 10th June and very likely to be rough to very rough during 11th to 14th June.

Monsoon is about to reach Sikkim

IMD said about the monsoon, in the coming 24 hours, the monsoon is expected to advance into the central Arabian Sea, most areas of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and additional areas of southwest, central and northeast Bay of Bengal. It has also been predicted to reach the remaining parts of Kerala, followed by the northeastern states and parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim in the next two days.

Heat wave will continue in these states

The Meteorological Department has forecast severe heatwave conditions in parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh from Friday to Sunday. In West Bengal, the heat wave is expected to continue till Tuesday in the coastal part of the Ganga, while in Odisha and Jharkhand, the heat wave is likely to continue till Monday.
