What is called a port?
The process of changing your number from one telecom company to another without changing your mobile number is called porting. In this, the user has the facility to change the service provider i.e. the company providing the network without changing his mobile number. In this, the user’s number remains the same, only the network of the SIM card changes. This is also called Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service. For example, a user using a Jio or Airtel SIM can change his number to BSNL. With this, the user will now have to recharge according to BSNL’s tariff plans. How to port mobile number to BSNL
1. To port your mobile number, you will have to send a request by sending an SMS to 1900.
2. You will have to send your ten digit mobile number by writing PORT in big letters in the message box.
3. If you are from Jammu and Kashmir, then you will have to call 1900.
4. After this you will have to go to BSNL’s service center.
5. Where the employee will take details from you. This will include your identity card, photo and biometric details.
6. After this the employee will issue you a BSNL SIM.
7. You will have to pay some fee for porting the SIM. The employee will tell you this fee.
8. Your SIM will be activated a few days after it is issued.
