WhatsApp has officially rolled out the archived chat option for both Android and iOS users. The Archived Chat feature can be used when you don’t want to see a contact’s name on your chat window, you might not want to remove it but want to remove it from your current chat list. You can do this with contacts with whom you rarely interact. However, once you archive a chat, you will not receive any notification from that chat even when a new message arrives.
What is WhatsApp Archived chats feature?
WhatsApp won’t tell you when an archive contact messages you, but will display a number at the top of the screen to notify you of unread messages. Notification regarding the same will not be sent. The Archived Chat Box appears at the top of your chat window. This is the first thing you see when you open WhatsApp, and it can bother a lot of users. Whenever you receive a text from an archived contact, WhatsApp will display a number and it will appear at the top of your screen. The number is placed next to the archived chat box to show the unread message. If you want to remove an archived chat box at the top of your screen, follow this simple procedure
How to remove the archived chat box from the top of your chat window on WhatsApp
- Go to WhatsApp and tap on Archived which appears at the top of the chat window
- When you tap on the Archived chat box, it will show you how many chats you have archived and whether you have received any messages from them.
On the top right of your iPhone, you’ll find an Edit button - Tap on the Edit button, and it will provide you with two options to choose from which include Select Chat and Edit Archive Settings
- Tap on Edit Archive Settings
- When you scroll down, you will find the “Keep chats archived” toggle button
- If the toggle is turned on, you’ll see the Archived chat option at the top of your screen
- If you turn off the Keep Chats Archived button, the archived chat box will disappear from the top of your chat window.
- If you want this feature back, you can follow the same steps to enable it in future.
Specifically, when you turn off the Keep Chats Archived option, you’ll also start getting notifications whenever a contact you’ve archived sends you messages.
